Exploring the Hôtel Salé: Picasso's Major Collection
The Hôtel Salé is a magnificent 17th-century Baroque mansion nestled in the Le Marais district, serving as the home of the Picasso Museum in Paris, officially known as Musée National Picasso-Paris.
This museum offers the most comprehensive assembly of works by Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Renowned as a prominent figure in Cubism, the Málaga-born painter is widely recognized as one of the pivotal artists of the 20th century.
Within its walls, the museum preserves a collection that chronicles Picasso’s entire artistic journey. This includes masterpieces from his personal studios, which he maintained until his passing, alongside his complete archives, totaling over 200,000 items.
Exquisite Masterpieces
Your ticket grants you access to explore the diverse galleries at your leisure, allowing you to discover works reflecting every phase of Picasso’s artistry (Blue, Rose, Cubist, and Classical), alongside pieces from his later years. Among the notable works showcased in the museum are:
- Self-Portrait: a celebrated piece from the Blue Period, created in 1901 when the artist was merely 20.
- La Celestina: a 1904 painting, also from the Blue Period, it stands as one of Picasso’s most iconic portraits.
- Paul Dressed as a Harlequin: a 1924 work where Picasso, in a return to classicism, depicts his first son.
- Portrait of Dora Maar: a Cubist masterpiece from 1937.
- The Kiss: a painting from 1969, representing the later phase of the esteemed artist.
Besides paintings, the exhibition includes numerous sculptures by Picasso, such as The Goat and Bull’s Head.
