Description
The La Cocha lagoon and the Santa Lucía wetlands represent two prime locations near Pasto, perfect for enjoying hiking experiences. This excursion offers the chance to immerse in nature while also indulging in fishing along the Guámuez River.
Tour of La Cocha Lagoon, Santa Lucía Wetlands and Fishing at Guámuez River
Our adventure begins at 7:30 am outside the Nariño monument, from where we will embark towards La Cocha Lake, the highlight of our day. Within an hour, we will reach this stunning body of water, recognized as the second largest lake in Colombia.
We will commence our hike along the El Puerto path, meandering beside a picturesque stream. Following this, a boat will carry us through the Santa Lucia wetlands, a safeguarded area showcasing the lowest moorlands in Colombia, situated at an altitude of 2600 meters (8530 feet) above sea level.
As we navigate our way through the area, we will encounter the valleys of frailejones, remarkable vegetation that can tower up to two meters high, growing at a pace of one centimeter annually. Our journey will then lead us to the village of Santa Isabel, where a local family's residence awaits us for a delightful homemade lunch.
In the afternoon, we'll board another boat on the Guámuez River for some fishing, a widely enjoyed local pastime. We will search for the ideal spots to cast our lines and enjoy the experience!
After our fishing adventure, we will return to the shore and visit a hotel with stunning views of La Cocha lake for some refreshing beverages. Our day concludes with our return to Pasto, where we will drop you off at the original meeting point by approximately 7:30 pm.
