Excursion to Marsella

Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Pereira at 7:30 am, as we set off towards the charming town of Marsella. Our route takes us through the picturesque coffee plantations nestled in the Cauca River Valley aboard a 4x4 vehicle.

Upon reaching Marsella approximately an hour later, we will visit a local farm, where you will be greeted with an appetizer of patacones with hogao, a delightful dish of fried plantains accompanied by a savory onion and tomato sauce crafted from organic ingredients sourced directly from their own garden.

Join us for a tour around the farm, where you will encounter cacao tree fields and gain insights into the traditional process of crafting organic chocolate. Experience firsthand the extraction of cacao beans, their roasting, and grinding, culminating in the preparation of a cacao juice that will later cool down.

This fascinating process concludes with a mouthwatering chocolate drink, which pairs perfectly with a typical lunch featuring sancocho (a hearty stew made with chicken and vegetables), all prepared with fresh ingredients straight from the farm.

Rejuvenated from our meal, we will continue to the heart of Marsella, where we’ll indulge in a cup of exquisite Colombian coffee at the main square. Here, you can admire the region's colonial architecture through landmarks like the Casa de la Cultura, renowned for its stunning balconies. It’s interesting to note that the rooms inside house a museum designated as an Asset of Cultural Heritage.

Our visit also includes the Botanical Garden, where you can wander among its vibrant flowers and greenery, as well as explore the José María Cemetery, a beloved site of Marsella.

Concluding the day, we will head back to Pereira, arriving at your hotel around 4:30 pm.
