Hiking in the Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary

Your journey begins at 8 am when we will pick you up from your hotel to head toward the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, situated in the southwestern region of Pereira.

The drive spans 18 kilometers, leading us to this natural haven nestled within the Cordillera Central of the Colombian Andes. Renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, the Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary boasts an abundance of bird species, insects, smaller mammals, and a variety of plant life.

Upon our arrival, we'll set off on a 2-kilometer hiking trail that meanders through this Andean rainforest. The hike is designed to be of low difficulty, guided by an environmental expert who will navigate you through scenic trails and elevations, unveiling the stunning vistas of this protected landscape.

As we walk, we'll take a moment to enjoy a traditional local meal featuring a dish and a beverage, before resuming our exploration of the sanctuary.

The Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary plays a vital role in conserving endangered species. You may spot avian wonders such as the moustached antpitta, the multicolored tanager, and the torrent duck. Mammal sightings could include monkeys, tapirs, and pacaranas, which are notable for being the second-largest rodent species in Colombia!

By 2 pm, we will conclude our adventure and return to Pereira, where we will drop you off at your hotel.
