Day of the Dead Ceremony At A Cenote
Description
Embark on a journey to discover one of the most celebrated traditions in Mexico by participating in a Day of the Dead ceremony at a sacred cenote, where you will traverse the thin line between the living and the spirit world.
Description
Your adventure begins at Plaza las Perlas, where we will gather at the specified time to board a bus heading to the Convent of San Bernardino de Siena, located in Valladolid—one of the oldest and most significant colonial sites in the area.
Explore the remarkable history of this site, which dates back to the 16th century. Here, you will learn about the convent's crucial role in the evangelization of indigenous peoples, laying the groundwork to understand the Day of the Dead. This festival arose from a unique blend of local traditions and Catholic practices.
After this insightful visit, we will continue our journey to a Maya village where an authentic Day of the Dead ceremony awaits us at a sacred cenote, marking the highlight of our day.
The experience deepens as we explore the significance of Maya body painting, tied closely to honoring those who have passed. You will also have the chance to taste xtabentún, a traditional ceremonial liquor with deep historical roots. Following this, a shaman will guide us through a cleansing ritual.
With our guide's expert explanations, you'll uncover intriguing aspects of the Day of the Dead ceremony and learn about the offerings made to honor the deceased during this meaningful occasion.
As the day concludes, a delightful taco buffet dinner will be served, allowing you to recharge after an enriching 11-hour experience before we return you safely to the meeting point.
