2-day Tour Around Potosí
Description
Enigmatic caves, dramatic canyon vistas and ancient ruins await you. Join us for this 2-day adventure around Potosí to explore these remarkable features and more!
Day 1
Our meeting point is set for 8 am in front of the Potosí Mint. Are you ready to unveil the treasures of this historic town?
Just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the city, our journey begins at a silver smelter. Here, we will delve into the mining heritage of Potosí and observe machinery that has operated since the colonial era used for silver processing. Afterwards, we will continue to the Devil's Cave, a site shrouded in intriguing legends...
Our next destination is the Cayara hacienda along with its house museum, showcasing stunning mural art. Additionally, we will explore the Cayara tunnels, which were constructed to support the hydroelectric plant financed by the Frenchman Luis Soux, providing Potosí with public lighting for the very first time.
After a lunch break, we will head to the Chiracoro lime kilns to learn about the importance of lime processed in their furnaces. Our day will conclude with a visit to Chocko Chocko hill, where an archaeological site awaits. We will then set up camp for the night at Jatun Pampa, beside a river.
Day 2
Following a refreshing night’s sleep, we'll have breakfast and continue our exploration of Potosí. The first stop of the day will be the Valley of Rocks, where breathtaking geological formations and vast canyons are home to pumas.
