Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
Description
Embark on a journey through the breathtaking Andean landscapes that encircle Potosí as you hike to the Kari Kari lagoons and the iconic Cerro Rico peak!
Kari Kari Lagoons Hiking Expedition
Your adventure begins at 8:45 am on Ayacucho Street in Potosí, where we'll gather to commence this hiking experience. A bus will escort us away from the bustling city center, revealing how the surrounding architecture transitions into a pre-colonial style as we venture closer to the mountains.
During our journey, we will pass by the exterior of the mineral refinement facilities linked to the local mining industry.
Upon arrival, we will embark on a fifteen-minute ascent leading us to the stunning Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael, and San Pablo, which date back to the 16th century.
You'll have the opportunity to marvel at the spectacular views of the slopes, including the renowned Cerro Rico, while immersing yourself in the captivating Andean environment. We will continue our trek up to the mountain summit, reaching an impressive altitude of 5000 meters.
After a rewarding ascent, we’ll pause for a picnic lunch at the Apacheta viewpoint, then begin our descent. From this vantage point, enjoy one of the finest panoramic vistas of Potosí!
Once we return to the starting point of our trek, transportation will be ready to take us back to Potosí, concluding our excursion at 4 pm.
Extend Your Experience
For those looking to enhance their adventure, an additional option allows us to settle at the mountain summit for dinner and overnight stay with a traditional Apacheta family, providing a unique glimpse into their way of life. Dinner will feature a warm soup followed by a hearty main dish.
We’ll rise with the sun for breakfast before continuing our hike towards the Chaqui hot springs.
Experience the rejuvenating thermal waters and savor a two-course lunch before our transportation takes us back to Potosí, concluding the tour at approximately 3 pm.
