2-day Tour Around Potosí
Description
Enigmatic caves, rugged canyon vistas and ancient pre-Columbian artifacts await you. Join this 2-day exploration around Potosí to uncover these captivating sights and more!
Day 1
Our adventure begins at 8 am, gathering in front of the Potosí Mint. Are you prepared to unveil the treasures surrounding this historic town?
Just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the city, we will reach our first highlight, a silver smelting facility. Here, we will delve into the mining heritage of Potosí and observe machinery that has been in use since the colonial era for silver processing. Our next destination is the Devil's Cave, a site steeped in mystery and enigma...
Continuing our journey, we'll visit the Cayara hacienda and its house museum, adorned with exquisite murals. This is also a chance to explore the Cayara tunnels, which powered a hydroelectric project financed by the Frenchman Luis Soux, bringing public lighting to Potosí for the first time.
After a lunch break, we will proceed to the Chiracoro lime kilns to understand the historical significance of the lime produced in these furnaces. Our day will conclude at Chocko Chocko hill, home to an archaeological site. We will then camp at Jatun Pampa, beside a serene river.
Day 2
After a restful night, we’ll enjoy breakfast and set out for the second day of our Potosí journey. Our morning will take us to the Valley of Rocks, where striking geological formations and expansive canyons are inhabited by pumas.
Next, we'll reach the Chiracoro waterfalls, a picturesque setting where we can watch artisanal fishermen at work, allowing time for a leisurely lunch. Following our meal, we will begin our return to Potosí, arriving around 4 pm.
