Santa Teresa Convent Guided Tour
Description
Embarking on this guided exploration of the Santa Teresa Convent presents a unique opportunity to explore a significant collection of religious art in Latin America, making it an indispensable stop in Potosí.
Guided Tour of Santa Teresa Convent
Your adventure starts at your selected time on Calle Ayacucho. From this point, we will stroll towards one of Potosí's most impressive religious sites. Welcome to the Santa Teresa Convent.
Founded in 1685 by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites, this monastery pays homage to Saint Teresa of Avila. In 1976, the nuns relocated to a more contemporary facility connected to the convent, which subsequently transformed into a museum showcasing a remarkable collection of religious art that is now deemed one of the most significant in Latin America.
During the guided tour, we will explore the main church and the Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception. These areas serve as a peaceful sanctuary for newly admitted nuns and contain impressive Baroque altarpieces.
The itinerary includes a visit to various rooms within the convent's religious art museum, such as the Sala de la Virgen Niña, showcasing textiles and embroidery crafted by the sisters, as well as the Sala de los Clásicos and the Sala del Belén.
Following this, we will venture into the gardens of the convent, where the Carmelites once engaged in agricultural practices.
At the conclusion of a 2-hour exploration, we'll conclude our visit at the museum's exit with our farewells.
