4 Days in Puerto Maldonado

Day 1: Arrival at Puerto Maldonado – Río Madre de Díos

On the inaugural day of your adventure, transportation will be arranged from Puerto Maldonado Airport, bus depot, or your accommodation to the river terminal. Here, you'll board a traditional vessel and navigate the Madre de Dios River towards our lodge, situated 30 kilometers away from the urban center.

After settling into our cabañas, the typical bungalows where we will spend the following three nights, we will enjoy a fulfilling lunch before delving into the rainforest for the afternoon. During this exploration, participants will gather seeds and discover the medicinal properties of the jungle flora. The day culminates in a river cruise, where you'll savor a breathtaking sunset prior to returning to the lodge for dinner and a restful evening, as we prepare for the adventures ahead!

Day 2: Exploring Tambopata

After a fulfilling breakfast at the lodge, we will embark on a journey to the Tambopata Reserve, primed for a day of trekking through the Amazon. Along the trails, we will learn to identify various plants and wildlife native to this lush environment. Expect to encounter a variety of species, including cedar trees, aguajes, numerous butterflies, and toucans! Our path leads us to Lago Sandova, where we can marvel at the lagoon's rich biodiversity before returning to the lodge for lunch and a short rest.

After our lake visit, lunch will be served, followed by an afternoon stroll into the twilight hours, offering a chance to observe the nocturnal wildlife of the rainforest. We will return to the lodge for dinner and retire for the evening, ready for what tomorrow brings.

Day 3: Adventure at Monkey Island

We start the morning with breakfast at the lodge before embarking on a day full of excitement in the Amazon jungle. On the third day, you'll have the chance to ascend trees, traverse hanging bridges, and experience the thrill of zip-lining over 200 meters!

Following this exhilarating jungle adventure, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch and take a few hours to rest. In the afternoon, we will visit the renowned Monkey Island. This small isle within the river provides an opportunity to spot various primates, such as marmosets, maquisapas, and huapos. The day concludes back at the lodge, where we'll enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation.

Day 4: Cachuela – Anaconda Lake – Return to Puerto Maldonado

Waking early, we will have one final breakfast at the lodge before heading to La Cachuela, an area known for its blue-headed macaws. Our birdwatching efforts will continue towards Anaconda Lake. Once there, why not test your fishing skills?

Finally, we will transport you back to your accommodation in Puerto Maldonado, arriving around midday.

Accommodation & Meals

This four-day journey includes full-board accommodations for three nights in single or double cabañas, situated at a lodge on the outskirts of Puerto Maldonado. All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—will be provided at the lodge.

Difficulty Level

The hikes during this four-day journey are considered easy and suitable for all age groups, covering distances of 3 to 6 kilometers (1.8 to 3.7 miles).
