Tambopata Parrot Clay Lick Expedition: 6 Days
Day 1
Your journey begins at Puerto Maldonado airport, followed by a transfer to the local river port where a boat will await to transport you to your jungle lodge in Tambopata.
Once you settle into your accommodations, we will make our way to the Cocococha Lagoon for an afternoon of exploration. This serene environment is ideal for birdwatching, where you can catch glimpses of species such as hoatzins and various fishing birds. Our adventure continues at an impressive 42-meter observation tower, a prime location to spot toucans and playful monkeys!
The first day concludes with a delightful dinner at the lodge, followed by a relaxing evening.
Day 2
We rise early to visit the renowned parrot clay lick at La Cachuela, before returning for breakfast. Around 10:30 AM, we set off on a hiking trail around the ecolodge, where we may encounter native birds like tinamous, trogons, and trumpet birds.
Post-lunch, we will continue our search for exotic birds along the banks of the Tambopata River, spotting silver herons, eagles, macaws, and more. As dusk approaches, we shift our focus to nocturnal birds, including owls and hawks, before heading back to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 3
After breakfast, we will gather our belongings and proceed to another lodge within the Tambopata reserve, offering a chance to explore new habitats.
The morning will be open for relaxation or guided activities, then in the afternoon, we embark on a two-hour hike in the La Torre region, observing birds that inhabit the forest's depths. In the evening, around 7:30 PM, we will return to the lodge for dinner followed by an excursion to seek out nocturnal bird species before retiring for the night.
Day 4
We'll set off early morning by boat to El Chuncho, home to one of the largest clay licks in Tambopata. The journey will take approximately four hours, after which we will camp there for the day to witness the spectacular native birds until dinner time.
Day 5
Awakening at 5 AM, we will visit a macaw clay lick at El Chuncho, where the vivid colors of these magnificent birds will leave you in awe!
Following those unforgettable moments, we'll return to the lodge for lunch, leaving the remainder of the afternoon open for leisure.
Day 6
After enjoying breakfast at the lodge, we will arrange your transportation back to the Puerto Maldonado airport, ensuring you have ample time for your departing flight.
