Day 1

Upon your arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, we will transfer you to the river port for an exciting canoe ride along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. While on board, you'll enjoy a picnic as we observe the local wildlife within the Tambopata Nature Reserve, including species like the chestnut jacamar and black-crowned herons.

The day concludes at our Tambopata accommodation, where we will stay for the following six nights. You'll have the afternoon at your leisure, and as dusk approaches, we'll gather for an evening walk to spot nocturnal creatures.

The evening wraps up with dinner at the hotel and a chance to relax.

Day 2

Following an early breakfast, we will embark at sunrise to the Tambopata clay lick, a prime location for viewing an array of exotic Amazonian birds, particularly various parrots and macaws.

After this vibrant birdwatching experience, we will return to the hotel for lunch before taking a brief 20-minute walk to Laguna Chica. Along this lake's shoreline, you'll encounter diverse toucan species showcasing their stunning beak colors.

We'll then head back to the hotel for dinner and a restful night.

Day 3

After breakfast, we set out to discover the forests along the Tambopata trail. This 6-kilometer (3 miles) trekking route allows us to observe the natural habitats of several bird species, such as the semi-collared Bolio and the white-winged tanager.

We will pause for a picnic amidst nature and continue our trek to spot additional birds like the red-billed tanager and red-billed toucan. Arrival back at the hotel is at 4 pm, leaving you the rest of the day free to unwind or explore the surrounding area.

Day 4

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before we ascend to the highest birding tower in the Amazon. Standing at 46 meters (150 feet), this tower offers exceptional views over the Tambopata Reserve, where you can witness turquoise tanagers, harpy eagles, and other indigenous birds soaring through the jungle.

After lunch at the hotel, we'll stroll to Laguna Chica to observe more unique birdlife, including peacocks and yellow woodpeckers. A delightful dinner at the lodge will close this thrilling day.

Day 5

Awakening early for breakfast, we will hike five kilometers (3 miles) to Lake Cocococha, reaching the destination at dawn. This time is ideal for spotting low-flying birds such as red-bellied macaws, long-billed tropicbirds, and the sociable kingfishers.

After a scenic picnic, we'll return to the hotel around 4 pm. Following dinner, those interested can join us on a special night canoe trip to search for Tambopata alligators!

Day 6

The sixth day will be dedicated to exploring areas of the trail that we have yet to visit—offering another chance to observe the exotic avifauna of Tambopata!

Day 7

After breakfast at the hotel, we will transport you to the Puerto Maldonado airport, ensuring you have ample time to board your flight.

Accommodation

Your tour includes 6 nights of lodging, based on your selection, at the Explorer's Inn Tambopata Ecolodge. The stay is on a full board basis, with all meals—breakfasts, lunches, and dinners—provided.
