Embark on a journey from Puerto Maldonado to uncover the remarkable biodiversity surrounding Tres Chimbadas Lake. You have the option to immerse yourself in this region of the Peruvian Amazon for a duration of 2, 3, or 4 days.

Tres Chimbadas Lake: 2, 3, or 4-Day Expedition

Day 1

Your adventure begins with a seamless pickup at either the airport or your accommodation in Puerto Maldonado. From there, we will head towards the Ese Eja de Infierno indigenous community, nestled along the Tambopata River. This visit offers insight into the traditional lifestyle of the tribe and their eco-friendly land management methods in the Peruvian jungle.

After our community visit, we will board a boat to navigate the river, leading us to Tres Chimbadas Lake. Prepare to encounter diverse wildlife, including alligators, turtles, and capybaras - known as the largest rodents globally.

Upon arrival at the lodge, we will check in and set off on a hike through the Amazon rainforest, where we can observe various species such as monkeys, squirrels, and exotic birds. Later, we will reconvene at the lodge for a delightful lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy a tranquil paddle boat excursion on the calm waters of Tres Chimbadas Lake, where we can spot a plethora of birds, including shanshos, needle ducks, kingfishers, and herons.

As the sun sets, we will gather for dinner at the lodge, followed by an exhilarating night walk to explore the intriguing amphibians, insects, and reptiles that inhabit the area.

Day 2

The next morning, we rise early to venture into the jungle for a visit to the natural viewpoint of Tres Chimbadas Lake. Here, we will witness a stunning sunrise before returning to the lodge for breakfast.

Afterward, we will embark on a boat ride back to Puerto Maldonado, where we will drop you off at your accommodation or the airport. Farewell to the Peruvian Amazon, taking with you cherished memories of this extraordinary experience.

3 or 4-Day Exploration

For those opting for the 3-day journey, on the second day, after breakfast, we'll engage in an ethnobotanical walk to discover medicinal plants and enormous trees, including the Lupuna and Shihuahuaco. In the afternoon, we can delve into the local fishing methods and attempt to catch piranhas. The day concludes with a night canoe ride on Tres Chimbadas Lake in pursuit of black alligators.

If a longer stay appeals to you, the 4-day tour allows us to wake up early on the third day and visit the La Torre clay lick, where we can observe macaws, parrots, and parakeets native to the Amazon. Breakfast will be served on board during our journey, and we will also visit a local farm to explore the cultivation and harvesting of crops like cocoa, bananas, cassava, and corn.

Later, we will hike through areas dominated by towering chestnut trees, some exceeding 40 meters (130 feet) in height, iconic to the Madre de Dios region. The day will end with a relaxed dinner at the lodge.
