Puerto Plata Tour + Monte Isabel de Torres
Description
Join this Puerto Plata tour to uncover its Colonial heritage by visiting the Fortaleza San Felipe, appreciating its Victorian-style buildings, and savoring a delightful lunch infused with local flavors. Additionally, you'll explore the beauty of Parque Nacional Isabel de Torres.
Tour Overview
Your journey begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Puerto Plata or the nearby cruise port. A brief 30-minute drive will take us towards the Parque Nacional Isabel de Torres. Here, embark on a walking tour lasting about an hour, as we ascend and admire stunning vistas.
Reaching the summit of Monte Isabel de Torres, one of the city’s landmark sites, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Atlantic coastline alongside the cityscape of Puerto Plata. This elevation holds the title of the highest point in Puerto Plata.
Subsequently, we will journey back to the vehicle and proceed to a rum distillery, where you will discover the crafting process behind this quintessential Caribbean drink. As sugarcane plays a pivotal role in the Dominican economy, you will understand its significance through a rum tasting session.
Next, we’ll take a brief drive towards the historic heart of Puerto Plata, pausing for around 10 minutes to visit the Cathedral of St. Philip the Apostle. This cathedral stands out for its historical importance and serves as a core landmark of the city.
Following this, the tour will lead us to the renowned Calle de las Sombrillas and Calle Rosada, popular spots for photography in the town center. You’ll then have a break of 30 minutes to relax and explore at your own pace.
Afterward, we will gather to indulge in a traditional Dominican meal, featuring rice with beans, your choice of meat or fish, patacones, and a beverage. To top it off, you will also sample some authentic artisanal chocolate.
Post-lunch, the journey continues to the Malecón, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting maritime scenery of Puerto Plata. Our final destination will be the Fortaleza San Felipe, a 16th-century fortress built to safeguard the bay against pirate and privateer raids. Notably, this site is one of the Caribbean's oldest Colonial fortifications!
After a 20-minute exploration here, we will return to your hotel, concluding our experience after approximately 6 hours together.
