Puerto Plata Tour + Monte Isabel de Torres
Description
In this Puerto Plata tour, you will delve into the city's Colonial heritage by visiting the Fortaleza San Felipe, while also appreciating its Victorian structures and Caribbean ambiance over a delightful lunch. The journey includes a stop at the Parque Nacional Isabel de Torres.
Tour Overview
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Puerto Plata or the cruise terminal. Following this, we will embark on a 30-minute drive to the Parque Nacional Isabel de Torres. Here, enjoy an approximate 1-hour excursion featuring a scenic walk and breathtaking vistas as we make our ascent.
Once we reach the summit of the Monte Isabel de Torres, the tallest point in Puerto Plata, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Atlantic coastline along with the cityscape. The landscape here is one of the city's most cherished highlights.
Next, we will return to our vehicle and proceed to a rum factory to uncover the distillation process of this essential Caribbean beverage. You'll understand the significance of sugarcane in the Dominican Republic's economy as you partake in a rum tasting.
Our journey continues with a brief drive to the historic district of Puerto Plata, where we'll take a 10-minute pause at the Cathedral of St. Philip the Apostle. This cathedral is renowned for its spiritual importance and stands as a monumental symbol of the city.
We will then visit the celebrated Calle de las Sombrillas and Calle Rosada, two picturesque spots that attract many photographers. Afterward, enjoy 30 minutes of free time to relax or explore the vicinity.
Subsequently, we regroup for a traditional Dominican meal, featuring rice with beans, your choice of meat or fish, patacones, and a beverage. You will also sample authentic artisanal chocolate.
Post-lunch, we will make our way to the Malecón to experience the coastal beauty of Puerto Plata. Our next highlight is the Fortaleza San Felipe, a 16th-century fortress built to safeguard the bay against pirate and privateer assaults. This site is recognized as one of the Caribbean's oldest Colonial fortifications.
After a 20-minute exploration of the fortress, we will conclude our tour with a return to your hotel, wrapping up approximately 6 hours of enriching experiences.
