Description

For those embarking on a journey through Patagonia, a visit to the expansive colony of Magellanic penguins is a must. This excursion to Magdalena Island presents an ideal opportunity to experience these charming birds in their natural setting.

Excursion Overview

Upon your arrival at Punta Arenas port, our team will meet you at the distinctive green clock located at Prat Pier, ready to commence one of the most rewarding excursions available for cruise travelers. Are you prepared to set off for Magdalena Island? Let’s get started!

At 10 am, we will board the ferry destined for our location, with a travel time of approximately 2.5 hours. Setting sail at 10:30 am, we will navigate the Strait of Magellan, heading towards this enchanting island in Chilean Patagonia, renowned for its thriving population of Magellanic penguins.

Upon reaching this designated Natural Monument, we will disembark and embark on a scenic trail that leads us to the penguin colony, where we can observe thousands of these remarkable birds in their habitat. Throughout our walk, you will have the chance to see the Magellanic penguins up close and discover intriguing facts about their behavior. You are sure to be captivated by their antics!

Additionally, we will visit the renowned lighthouse of Magdalena Island, which was inaugurated in 1902. This historic structure has served the Chilean Government as a crucial point of reference for sailors navigating the Strait of Magellan.

Following our adventure on Magdalena Island, we will return to the ferry at 1:30 pm for the trip back to Punta Arenas. Take a moment to appreciate the stunning vistas one last time! Upon our arrival at Prat Pier, we will bid you farewell, concluding this enriching 5-hour-and-45-minute experience.
