Ojos Indígenas Cenotes Day Trip + Animal Watching
Description
Experience the vibrant wildlife of the Dominican Republic through this immersive wildlife observation tour in Fundación Puntacana. This adventure also includes a visit to the Ojos Indígenas Cenotes.
Activity Overview
Your journey begins at Punta Cana Resort & Club, where we will gather before heading to the ecological project of Fundación Puntacana. Here, you'll gain insight into the vital conservation initiatives aimed at protecting the unique species found in the Dominican Republic. Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable jungle adventure?
We will kick off our wildlife observation by searching for the impressive Ridgway's hawk, a notable raptor in the region. Remarkably, this species is one of the rarest birds on the planet, existing only in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Although serious conservation measures are in place, they remain at risk of extinction, making this sighting a true privilege.
Next, we'll proceed to the apiary on the grounds to discover the crucial role of bees in this vibrant ecosystem. As a delightful bonus, participants will have the opportunity to sample some of the finest honey produced in Punta Cana!
We'll then visit the sanctuary for rhinoceros iguanas, an intriguing endemic species that is facing extinction. As we observe these reptiles, we will discuss their behaviors and reproductive habits.
Coral Cove
Our journey continues as we head to Coral Cove to learn about the coral conservation projects on the island. Here, you will engage in an interactive experience to truly appreciate these vital ecosystems. Following this, we will embark on a 20-minute walk along a trail that leads to a fruit garden.
Ojos Indígenas Cenotes
Finally, we will conclude our activity at the Iniri Lagoon, situated within the Ojos Indígenas Ecological Reserve. Upon arrival, you will have 1 hour and 20 minutes to relax and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear cenotes, all encircled by lush, tropical foliage.
After exploring the Indigenous Eyes Reserve, we will return to our initial meeting spot, concluding our journey after approximately 3 hours.
