Santo Domingo Day Trip
Description
Explore the colonial area of Santo Domingo on this enriching journey, where you will uncover the historical impact of the Columbus family alongside the key monuments of the oldest city in the Americas.
Trip Overview
On the appointed day, transportation will be provided from your hotel in Punta Cana as we head towards Santo Domingo.
The adventure begins at the remarkable Los Tres Ojos grotto, renowned for its stunning freshwater lakes and impressive cave formations. Following this, we will view the exterior of the Columbus Lighthouse, believed to house the remains of the famous explorer.
Our journey continues with a visit to the Presidential Palace, where you'll be able to admire the intricate neoclassical facade before we delve into the charming historic district of Santo Domingo, known as Ciudad Colonial!
You will have the opportunity to enter the temple of Santa María de La Encarnación, also known as the Cathedral Primada de América, the oldest cathedral on the continent, to reveal its fascinating history. We will then transport ourselves back in time while walking along the Calle de las Damas, the location of the very first stone house built in the New World. Our next stop will take us inside the National Pantheon, a resting place for significant historical figures of the Dominican Republic.
We will proceed to the Plaza de España, where you can take in the enchanting terraces that overlook the Ozama River. The iconic Alcázar de Colón, once home to the Admiral, is located here, providing a perfect photo opportunity during our visit.
After exploring, we will enjoy a delightful buffet lunch featuring local specialties such as rice, meat stew, and beans in a restaurant situated in the historical center. The meal also includes non-alcoholic beverages. Refreshed, we will then head to the Malecón area to admire the stunning vistas of the Caribbean Sea.
Our day concludes as we return you to your accommodations, with an expected arrival time between 9 and 11.5 hours following pick-up.
