Join this five-day expedition starting from Putre that takes you across the stunning mountainous terrain of northern Chile, featuring the Parinacota and Taapacá volcanoes—a remarkable journey you won’t want to overlook!

Five-Day Adventure to Parinacota and Taapacá

Day 1

Our adventure begins with an early pickup from your accommodation in Putre. We will journey to the Taapacá volcano viewpoint, where you'll marvel at this magnificent Andean giant towering at 19,225 feet (5,860 meters). Surrounding this impressive peak are the breathtaking altiplano landscapes that stretch toward the neighboring borders of Chile, Bolivia, and Peru.

From there, we’ll venture to the quaint village of Colpita and continue towards the renowned Suriplaza colorful mountains. Depending on your interests, you can either admire these striking formations from ground level or take on a challenging trekking route that ascends to 17,388 feet (5,300 meters).

Our first day will conclude with an overnight stay in a rural lodging in Parinacota.

Day 2

After breakfast at our Parinacota lodging, we will spend the morning trekking through the scenic Cotacotani Lagoons and Chungará Lake, both situated within the stunning Lauca National Park, a highlight of northern Chile’s natural beauty.

We'll make a rejuvenating stop at the Chiriguaya hot springs before proceeding to a rural home in Chimvatambo. Here, you will gain insight into the traditional method of "charqui," or meat dehydration, enjoy dinner, and unwind for the night.

Day 3

Our third day kicks off with a visit to the vicuña reserve, where these delightful Andean animals reside. Following this, we will traverse the Chinchillani hill, the captivating Salar Salt Flats, and the Chilcaya plain.

At one end of the salt flats, we will find the inviting Polloquere hot springs, ideal for a restorative soak. After our time here, we will explore the picturesque villages of Isluga and Cariquima, where we’ll enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 4

On the fourth day, our journey will lead us to the vast Coipasa Salt Flats, straddling the border between Chile and Bolivia, a region recognized for its impressive tall cacti.

Next, we return to Cariquima to explore its notable church and the Community Museum. Continuing the adventure in Tarapacá, we'll take in the sights of the San Lorenzo sanctuary and the incredible Atacama Giant, which is celebrated as the largest geoglyph in Latin America.

A lunch break will occur in the town of Huara, followed by the conclusion of our day's exploration with an overnight stay at a rural lodge in Nama.

Day 5

On the final day, we will embark on a morning visit to the stunning Red Lagoon and the mesmerizing Rainbow waterfall, both of which are enchanting natural locations near Nama.

Following this, we'll return to the regions of Nama and Camiña for lunch before heading back to your hotel in Putre by late afternoon.

Accommodation and Meals

Your accommodations throughout the trip will be in shared rooms of rural houses, with both dinner and breakfast included. Please note that lodging arrangements may shift based on availability and weather conditions.

Lunches are also provided and will consist of a picnic served during one of our midday breaks throughout the tours.
