Snaefellsnes Day Trip
Description
The Snæfellsjökull Peninsula offers stunning natural beauty. Discover idyllic black sand beaches, charming villages, and the striking Kirkjufell mountain on this enriching day excursion from Reykjavík!
Activity Details
At the arranged time, you will be collected from your hotel or a central meeting location in Reykjavík, beginning an exploration of the captivating Snæfellsjökull Peninsula in Iceland. You might find it interesting that this area is referenced in several settings of the classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.
Shortly after our departure, we will arrive at our first stop, Kirkjufell, renowned as one of the most frequently captured landscapes in Iceland. This iconic site also served as a backdrop for Game of Thrones, famously identified as Arrowhead Mountain! Following this visit, a brief 20-minute drive will take us to Ólafsvík, a quaint town recognized as one of Iceland's significant trading ports.
Continuing our journey, we will travel for about 30 minutes to the renowned black sand beach at Djúpalónssandur. Here, your guide will recount the tale of the shipwreck that transpired in this area in 1948. Our next destination is Lóndrangar, a pair of dramatic rock stacks that rise to 246 and 200 ft (75 and 61 m) tall. The sight is truly breathtaking!
After a short 20-minute ride, we will arrive at Arnarstapi, a historic fishing community famous for its stunning basalt cliffs and the notable Gatklettur rock arch. Our day will conclude with another 20-minute drive to Búðakirkja, an enchanting little church that is over 170 years old, distinguished by its completely black exterior featuring white doors and window frames.
After approximately 11 hours of exploration, we will return you to your hotel or the initial meeting point.
