Reykjanes Day Trip
Description
Discover stunning lakes, volcanic terrains, and the fascinating divide between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates: all this awaits on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Iceland on this day excursion from Reykjavik!
Day Trip to Reykjanes
Your adventure will begin with a pickup from your hotel in Reykjavik between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., as we embark on an exciting journey to the Reykjanes Peninsula, a true haven in the southwest region of Iceland.
Upon arrival, prepare to be amazed by the striking landscapes—Reykjanes resembles a scene straight from a post-apocalyptic film! Our initial destination will be Kleifarvatn, the peninsula’s largest lake, which local legends claim is home to an elusive monster. The truth of this tale is yours to uncover!
As we proceed, our path will take us to the Krýsuvík geothermal area, featuring vibrantly colored soils, hot springs, fumaroles, and maars, craters formed from explosive groundwater interactions. We’ll visit Grænavatn, a lake characterized by its striking green hue resulting from these eruptions.
Next, we’ll make our way to the coastline, where you can relish the invigorating sea breeze as we observe various bird species soaring above. Additionally, we’ll take in views of Reykjanesviti, Iceland's oldest lighthouse.
Our final visit will be to the bridge between two continents, providing an incredible vantage point over the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia—an experience sure to inspire awe!
As the day concludes, we’ll return to Reykjavik, arriving around 2:30 p.m.
