Rio de Janeiro Historic Center Tour + Brazilian Lunch
Description
Experience the essence of the historic center of Rio de Janeiro on this walking tour, where you will find yourself surrounded by stunning architectural wonders, from movie-like libraries to gilded churches. A highlight of the day will be a traditional Brazilian lunch that showcases local flavors.
Tour Overview
We will gather at the Cinelândia metro station at the scheduled time, ready to embark on this exploration of Rio's historic core. Are you prepared to discover the heartbeat of this vibrant city?
Our journey begins at the iconic square, where we will take in the grand structures that frame it: the Theatro Municipal, the National Library of Brazil, and the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes. Here, the fusion of European architecture and Rio's lively spirit is truly captivating.
Our first stop is the Igreja de São Francisco da Penitência, widely regarded as a masterpiece of Brazilian Baroque architecture and celebrated for its stunning gold leaf artistry.
Next, we’ll marvel at one of the world’s most extraordinary libraries, the Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading. The Neo-Manueline design and its sprawling collection of books are sure to leave you in awe.
We'll continue our excursion at the renowned Confeitaria Colombo, a testament to Rio's Belle Époque. As we explore its exquisite French mirrors and stained-glass windows, you’ll learn about the history of this establishment where the city's elite once gathered for afternoon tea.
Our path will take us through the historic core of colonial Rio, passing landmarks such as Praça XV and the Arco do Teles, culminating at Casa Tucum, a venue dedicated to showcasing the art and crafts of Brazil's indigenous communities through various events and exhibitions.
We will cap off our tour with an exclusive Brazilian culinary menu. To start, choose from goat salad, country pâté, or ricotta pasta with olives. The main course options include moqueca (a fish and shrimp stew), picadinho carioca (a Rio-style stew), or the iconic feijoada (Brazilian stew). For dessert, indulge in chocolate profiteroles, milk pudding, or a Negresco ice cream cake.
Following this delightful lunch, we will wrap up the tour, reflecting on the fascinating experiences of the day. The entire tour lasts approximately 5 hours.
