Tour Overview

We will commence our day early, gathering at your accommodation in Rio for a captivating trip that takes you back to Brazil’s imperial era. After approximately a 2-hour bus journey, we will reach Petrópolis, situated 68 kilometers from the bustling city.

Upon arrival, a guided exploration will unveil the significant sites of this historical city, once the summer retreat for the royal family during the 19th century. Its creation was commissioned by Dom Pedro II as a homage to his father, Dom Pedro I.

We will explore the Imperial Museum, which served as the home of the Brazilian Imperial Family. You'll get the chance to roam through its rooms, marveling at garments, furniture, and jewels that belonged to the distinguished Orleans and Braganza houses.

Your experience will also include visits to notable landmarks such as the Crystal Palace, an impressive iron and glass construction where the city’s last enslaved individuals gained their freedom in 1888. Additionally, you will admire the architectural beauty of São Pedro Cathedral and the grand Quitandinha Palace, recognized as the largest palace in Brazil and one of the most significant in Latin America.

After engaging deeply with Brazilian history, you will have some free time for lunch and the opportunity to wander through the city’s majestic structures before heading back to Rio de Janeiro. The entire excursion will span approximately 10 hours.
