Sugarloaf Cable Car
Description
This ticket grants you access to the legendary Sugarloaf cable car, allowing you to take in the magnificent vistas of Rio de Janeiro from a height of 1,299 ft (396 m). From this vantage point, expansive views of Copacabana and Guanabara Bay await you!
Sugarloaf Cable Car Experience
Securing this ticket offers one of the most memorable activities to engage in while visiting Rio de Janeiro. This granite mountain, known as a prominent symbol of Brazil, flawlessly blends natural beauty with urban scenery, providing a distinctive viewpoint of the renowned “Cidade Maravilhosa”.
Your journey commences at the Bondinho station, where you will board a contemporary, fully glass-enclosed cabin that promises 360° panoramic views of the city. The term Sugarloaf Bondinho originated in 1912 with the cable car's launch, and its cabins were reminiscent of Rio's streetcars, also known as bondes. Due to its smaller, elevated design, locals fondly referred to it as the "Bondinho."
The ascent via the cable car involves two segments. The initial halt is at Morro da Urca, positioned at 722 ft (220 m) above sea level, where stunning views already await. The journey continues to the apex of Sugarloaf Mountain, reaching 1,299 ft (396 m), providing a truly breathtaking panoramic experience.
As you rise, take a moment to gaze upon Copacabana Beach, the tranquil waters of Botafogo Bay, and the expansive landscape of Guanabara Bay. Each segment of your cable car ride lasts approximately 3 minutes.
Upon reaching the summit, you are free to explore the area at your own leisure. Consider wandering around the various viewpoints, visiting the Arts Forest featuring outdoor sculptures, or enjoying the sunset accompanied by live DJ performances. An experience you won’t want to miss!
