Tijuca National Park Cave & Waterfall Hike
Description
Are you ready to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro? Join us on a hiking adventure through the breathtaking paths of Tijuca National Park, where you will encounter spectacular waterfalls and remarkable caves along the Cave Trail.
Activity Details
Your day begins with a pick-up from select hotels in Rio de Janeiro at the specified time, followed by a scenic drive to Tijuca National Park, the largest urban rainforest globally, spanning an impressive 32,000 hectares (79,074 acres). Before our journey into the park, we will pause at the Vista Chinesa viewpoint, a perfect spot to take in panoramic views of the vibrant city of Rio.
Upon arrival at the park entrance, our hiking expedition will commence along the Cave Trail, known for its unique features and moderate difficulty level. Our first destination will be the stunning Tunay waterfall, which falls gracefully from a height of 35 meters (115 feet). Enjoy the serene atmosphere as we appreciate this natural gem.
After soaking in the beauty of the waterfall, we will proceed to the Tijuca National Park Visitor Centre, an excellent location for discovering the rich history and diverse wildlife of the area.
Our adventure continues with a 20-minute stroll to one of the highlights of the trail: the Almas waterfall, where an invigorating swim awaits you! Upon refreshing ourselves in these waters, we will return to the Cave Trail for an exploration of four intriguing caves, including the famous Bat Cave. Depending on the season, there’s a chance we may visit the captivating Diamantina Waterfall instead of Almas.
To conclude our hiking experience, we will traverse a total distance of 2 to 4.5 kilometers (1.2 to 2.8 miles) before reaching the Baronesa Waterfall, another spot perfect for a revitalizing dip. After enjoying this final stop, we’ll trek back to our minibus, which will take us back to Vista Chinesa, where you’ll be treated to spectacular views of Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, and the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema.
This exhilarating full-day adventure wraps up with a return to your hotel after an enriching 5-hour tour.
