Would you like to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Rio de Janeiro? Join this hiking tour to traverse the scenic trails of Tijuca National Park, where you’ll encounter breathtaking waterfalls and incredible caves along the Cave Trail.
Activity Details
Your adventure will begin with a pickup from one of the designated hotels in Rio de Janeiro at the scheduled time, followed by a drive to Tijuca National Park, recognized as the largest urban rainforest globally, spanning 32,000 hectares (79,074 acres). Before entering the park, we will stop at the Vista Chinesa viewpoint, where you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the city.
Upon arrival at the park's entrance, we will embark on our hiking journey, commencing on the Cave Trail, noted for its unique characteristics. This relatively easy trail leads us to the Tunay waterfall, which serves as our first highlight along the route. This magnificent fall plunges from a height of 35 meters (115 feet), creating a spectacular sight.
After admiring the waterfall, we will proceed to the Tijuca National Park Visitor Centre, a valuable stop to gather insights about the history and wildlife of this ecological treasure.
We’ll then enjoy a 20-minute walk to one of the most stunning sections of the trail: the Almas waterfall, where you can take a dip in its inviting waters. Following this refreshing experience, we will resume our exploration of the Cave Trail by visiting four remarkable caves, including the Bat Cave. Depending on the time of year, we might substitute this with a visit to the Diamantina Waterfall.
Our trekking experience will culminate at the Baronesa Waterfall, where another opportunities for a refreshing swim awaits. We will then retrace our steps to meet the minibus, which will return us to the Vista China viewpoint within Tijuca, offering exceptional views of iconic landmarks such as Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, and the vibrant beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema.
This enriching 5-hour tour concludes with your drop-off back at your hotel.

- Wildlife sightings aren’t guaranteed
- Pickups in São Conrado don’t return to the same point (drop-off will be in Ipanema or Leblon from Monday to Friday and on holidays)
- A moderate level of physical fitness is required
- The activity takes place rain or shine; tropical rain makes the landscape even more spectacular. Bring a rain jacket!
- The Vista China viewpoint is closed on weekends and holidays
- Tours on weekdays offer greater chances of seeing animals
- The duration may vary depending on traffic; avoid booking if you have tight schedules (flights, other tours, etc.)
- The itinerary may vary depending on the weather, park regulations, or group conditions
Note: On weekend and holiday afternoons, vehicle access may be restricted and the tour may take place entirely on foot.
