Galleria Borghese Guided Tour
Description
Join this guided exploration to uncover the remarkable assortment of paintings and sculptures found in the Borghese Gallery, a premier destination for art enthusiasts in Rome.
Tour Overview
We will gather at the specified time at Piazzale del Museo Borghese, positioned at the entrance of the gallery, nestled within the picturesque Villa Borghese Park, a celebrated oasis in Rome. Following a short introduction regarding the park's significance and history, we will proceed directly inside the gallery.
This exceptional gallery, set within a magnificent 17th-century villa, boasts one of the most renowned art collections globally and is considered one of Rome's artistic treasures. Cardinal Scipione Borghese curated this impressive collection, demonstrating his fervor for the arts and a knack for recognizing talent. His early support of Bernini significantly influenced the artist's career, resulting in breathtaking masterpieces.
As we step into the sculpture halls, prepare to be amazed. We will behold Bernini's Apollo and Daphne, a mesmerizing marble masterpiece capturing a moment of transformation with an ethereal lightness. Additionally, we will encounter The Rape of Proserpina, where Pluto's grip appears so realistic that it challenges belief, alongside Bernini's David, an embodiment of Baroque dynamism. The tour will feature Antonio Canova's Venus Victorious, portraying Napoleon's sister Pauline Bonaparte in a repose that exudes the confidence required by the subject.
The gallery's painting collection is equally remarkable, showcasing masterpieces by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian, among others.
Our guided visit will span 2 hours, culminating in the gallery.
