Reasons to Explore Castel Sant'Angelo
For those eager to uncover the hidden narratives within Rome, this experience invites you to use your headphones and embark on a captivating exploration of the historical Castel Sant'Angelo. Your ticket, which comes with an audio guide, provides an opportunity to venture through Hadrian's Mausoleum—a significant fortress located on the right bank of the Tiber River, which has observed the illustrious tales of the Eternal City.
As you traverse the site, immerse yourself in the anecdotes associated with each area of Castel Sant'Angelo, from the famous statue-adorned bridge to the harrowing plague that struck Rome in the 6th century A.D. Learn about the fortress's crucial role in the city’s history and explore the myths narrating the visitation of Saint Michael the Archangel at this landmark.
The audio guide shares fascinating details about the construction of Castel Sant'Angelo as a mausoleum for Hadrian and his family. Discover how it evolved into a fortress for the popes, connected to the Vatican through a secret passage—an aspect that may remind you of the thrilling plot in Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons."
With your entrance ticket, enjoy access to all five floors of Castel Sant'Angelo. From the chamber of ashes to the prison cells, admire the Renaissance frescoes, and be sure to visit the terrace, offering one of the most stunning panoramas of Rome.
