Tour Description

After collecting you from your hotel at the designated time, we will depart from the bustling city of Rome and make our way north toward the beautiful Umbria region. Prepare to immerse yourself in one of Italy's iconic pilgrimage destinations.

Upon our arrival in Assisi, we will embark on a guided tour to unveil the mysteries of St. Francis’s hometown. Our first stop will be the Basilica of St. Clare, which houses the relics of the saint renowned for being a follower of St. Francis and the founder of the Order of St. Clare. We will delve into the beauty of this 13th-century Gothic structure, situated in the heart of Assisi.

Next, we will proceed to Town Hall Square to admire the architectural splendor of the Palace of the Priors, the People’s Capitol, the Civic Tower, and the remarkably preserved Temple of Minerva, the finest Roman edifice in the region.

During our exploration, we will also learn about Saint Rufino of Assisi, the city's patron saint. Our tour continues with a visit to the shrine of Carlo Acutis located in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore at Piazza del Vescovado. This site is notable as the location of Assisi’s first cathedral and the place where St. Francis renounced all worldly possessions, rich in historical significance.

Our journey will naturally lead us to the Basilica of St. Francis, where you will find the saint's tomb, stunning frescoes dating from the 12th to 14th centuries, as well as works by revered artists like Cimabue, Giotto, Pietro Lorenzetti, and Simone Martini.

Following the guided exploration, we will visit a local eatery to enjoy a delicious traditional lunch, featuring a variety of Umbrian meats and cheeses, a pasta or meat main course, and dessert. You will also have the option to select from two wines: a Sagrantino (red) or a Grechetto (white).

Once you've enjoyed your meal, we will grant you an hour of leisure time to wander through Assisi’s medieval streets at your own pace, discovering its charming narrow lanes and local shops.

At the conclusion of our adventure, we will return to Rome, finishing our tour at Rome Termini Central Station approximately 12 hours after the initial pickup.

The tour includes pickup from hotels situated within the Aurelian Walls in Rome. For those staying in different areas, in apartments or bed-and-breakfasts, direct access to Piazza della Repubblica, opposite The Space Cinema Moderno Roma, is required.
