San Luis Potosí Guided Walking Tour
Description
On this guided walking tour of San Luis Potosí, you will explore the history of the state's capital while strolling through its iconic squares, temples, and monumental palaces.
Tour Details
We will meet at the Jardín de San Miguelito to start our walking tour and uncover the authentic charm of San Luis Potosí.
Our journey begins in front of the San Luis Potosí Cathedral, a remarkable example of New Spanish Baroque architecture that illustrates the city's viceregal influence and religious significance. The main facade, carved from pink quarry, features distinctive Solomonic columns and intricate reliefs.
Next, we will explore the Palacio Municipal and the Palacio de Gobierno. Here, the grandeur of Potosino aristocracy is evident in the arcades and balconies that tell tales of founders, uprisings, and agreements, revealing how the city has developed its identity since the 16th century.
Continuing our journey, we will delve into the history of the Casa de las Abandonadas, where we will discover various legends reflecting turbulent times. After gaining insights into its intriguing past, we will visit the Jardín de San Francisco, a peaceful retreat favored by locals for relaxing amidst tree-lined paths.
Our final destination will be the Plaza Fundadores, a site where architecture, religion, and everyday life have converged from Colonial times to the present. In the square's center, the statue of Saint Louis, King of France, pays tribute to the city's patron saint. Interestingly, some claim this figure represents Ferdinand III, King of Castile, due to an error in the iconographic elements.
We will conclude our 2.5-hour tour with farewells at the Jardín de San Francisco.
