Tour Overview
Day 1: Arrival in Santo Domingo
Welcome to the magnificent Dominican Republic! Upon your arrival at either the Punta Cana or Santo Domingo airport, our team will greet you with a personalized sign and escort you to your accommodation in the historic city of Santo Domingo. An exciting 8-day adventure lies ahead.
Day 2: Exploring Santo Domingo
After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, we will embark on a guided exploration of the Colonial City, recognized as a World Heritage Site. You will visit the Primera Fortaleza, the oldest stronghold in the Americas, take a leisurely walk along Calle de las Damas, the first cobblestone street of the New World, and explore the Museo de las Atarazanas Reales and the Casa del Cordón, which is now the Centro Cultural Taíno featuring engaging exhibits on indigenous heritage.
For lunch, we will stop at a traditional comedor in the Colonial Zone, where we recommend trying sancocho, a signature Dominican stew made with meat, yams, pumpkin, cassava, and plantains served with rice and avocado. The afternoon will be yours to relax or wander around at your own leisure.
Day 3: From Santo Domingo to Jarabacoa
After breakfast, we will delve deeper into Santo Domingo's culture with a local guide familiar with the Ozama River. Our journey will begin in Barrio Chino, moving along the bustling Avenida Duarte before heading to the Río Ozama for a scenic boat trip to observe local fishermen. Afterwards, we will ride the cable car above the river and nearby neighborhoods, taking in panoramic city views, and conclude our tour with a satisfying homemade meal at Doña Mada, complete with artisan ice cream.
Next, we will venture north towards Jarabacoa via the Dominican Republic’s oldest road, ascending into the Cordillera Central, often referred to as the Dominican Alps. By the day's end, we will arrive in Jarabacoa, a charming mountain town sitting at 600 meters (1,969 feet) above sea level, surrounded by lush pine forests and rivers, boasting a mild climate throughout the year.
Day 4: Jarabacoa to Santiago de los Caballeros
Good morning! After breakfast, we will visit the Monte Alto Coffee Factory, where you will learn about the cultivation and processing of this exquisite beverage.
Following our coffee adventure, we'll spend our day hiking through the mountains of the Dominican Republic, culminating with visits to the region’s picturesque waterfalls. After gaining insights into the local flora and fauna, we will journey to Santiago de los Caballeros, where we will tour one of the nation’s premier cigar factories.
In the afternoon, we will check you into your hotel in Santiago de los Caballeros, granting you free time for the rest of the day.
Day 5: Santiago de los Caballeros – San Francisco de Macorís – Las Terrenas
Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel before we depart towards Samaná. Our first stop will be in San Francisco de Macorís, where you’ll discover the Cacao Trail. Here, we’ll explore the rich traditions associated with cacao farming as we visit the La Esmeralda Hacienda.
Along with a tasting session, we will savor a delectable lunch at the hacienda. Once refreshed, we will continue our journey into the magnificent Samaná Peninsula, arriving specifically in Las Terrenas. Welcome to this paradise on earth in the Dominican Republic!
Days 6 & 7: Leisure in Las Terrenas
During days six and seven of our itinerary, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the stunning beaches of the Samaná Peninsula at your own pace. Take the time to unwind and soak in the natural beauty around you!
Day 8: Departure from Las Terrenas
As our remarkable 8-day journey through the Dominican Republic comes to an end, we will depart from Las Terrenas and transfer you to Punta Cana or Santo Domingo airport, based on your flight arrangements. Until next time!
