Hà Giang 4-Day Trip
Description
Embark on an engaging 4-day adventure through Hà Giang, where you'll immerse yourself in picturesque landscapes and traditional villages. This itinerary will take you to remarkable sites like Heaven's Gate, Mã Pí Lèng Pass, and the Vietnamese Loop. It’s a captivating experience perfect for those venturing out from Sapa!
Trip Breakdown
Day 1: Sapa to Hà Giang
After collecting you from your Sapa hotel, we will board a bus destined for Hà Giang, a remote area in northern Vietnam, bordering China.
The travel duration is around 6.5 hours, including a break to stretch and have dinner at your leisure. Upon reaching our destination, we'll settle into our first overnight lodging, allowing you to recharge for the journey ahead.
Day 2: Hà Giang to Qu?n B?, Yên Minh, and Pho Bang
Following a hearty buffet breakfast, local drivers will meet us to guide us on motorbikes or off-road vehicles, based on your preference, through a route showcasing local architecture and rural living.
Making our way into the Qu?n B? district, we will climb to Heaven’s Gate, a mountain pass standing 1,500 meters (4,921 ft) high, originally established by the French as a control point nearly a century ago. Here, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the Qu?n B? Twin Mountains, believed to represent a goddess mourning her love.
Continuing our expedition, we will stop by a cooperative operated by Hmong women, who cultivate hemp to craft textiles rich in symbolic significance. It’s noteworthy that the Hmong consider hemp a vital link between the living and the dead.
Once we feel hungry, we’ll arrive at Yên Minh for a traditional Vietnamese lunch. Post meal, we will navigate the meandering Tham Ma Pass, a breathtaking stretch with captivating vistas.
Later, we’ll explore the villages of Pho Cao and Pho Bang, where ancient structures with yin-yang roofs remain. These establishments, designed based on feng shui principles, aim to foster harmony within their environment.
Our day concludes with dinner in a welcoming house in Pho Bang, where we’ll experience the warmth of local hospitality for the night.
Day 3: Discovering ??ng V?n, Mã Pí Lèng, and Du Già
We will kick off the day with breakfast, and if a local market is in session, we’ll venture out early to explore the vibrant stalls where community members gather to exchange fabrics, spices, and fresh produce. If it’s not market day, breakfast will take a bit longer.
Subsequently, we’ll visit a silversmith workshop, where this age-old craft unfolds before us. Following this stop, our next destination is the Hmong King’s Palace, constructed in the early 20th century. This monumental estate, tied to one of the region's most influential families, carries a rich history related to the opium trade and Chinese influences. An interesting fact is that the layout of its courtyards adheres to feng shui guidelines to promote prosperity.
The pinnacle of our journey arrives as we traverse the Mã Pí Lèng Pass, acclaimed as Vietnam's most magnificent. From our vantage point, we will gaze upon the Nho Qu? River winding its way through steep limestone cliffs.
After a lunch stop in Mèo V?c, we will continue along the famed Hà Giang Loop, taking in the picturesque L?ng H? Valley, the iconic M-shaped road, and remnants of former French military outposts. Be sure to have your cameras ready, as these views are indeed photogenic.
Our day wraps up in the charming village of Du Già, nestled amidst a valley of rice fields. Here, we’ll share dinner and prepare for an evening of rest. Until tomorrow!
Day 4: Du Già Waterfall, Duong Thuong Valley, and Return to Hà Giang
As we approach our final day in Hà Giang, we’ll start with breakfast before heading to the Du Già Waterfall, a tranquil hideaway surrounded by lush greenery. If the weather permits, you may take a refreshing swim.
Next, we will cross the Duong Thuong Valley, an area where locals cultivate rice, hemp, and vegetables on terraced fields clinging to the mountainsides.
Continuing on, we will ascend to the Sa Li Pass, linking us back to the Hà Giang Loop. This route provides final spectacular glimpses of the river canyon framed by towering cliffs before we reach the city of Hà Giang.
Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy lunch at Pizza Here restaurant, known as the top pizzeria in the area. Following our meal, we’ll transfer to the bus station, where we’ll bid farewell based on your travel schedule.
Return Bus Timing
We recommend aiming for a bus departure at around 4 pm.
