Seville River Banks Free Tour
At a time that suits you, we will gather at the Plaza San Francisco to embark on a walking tour filled with insights into Seville's most glorious era. Are you ready? Let’s begin!
The phrase "Who hasn’t seen Seville, hasn’t seen anything wonderful" epitomized the allure of the Andalusian capital during the 16th and 17th centuries. You may find yourself echoing this sentiment as we visit the iconic Giralda. As we meander through the city, we will reflect on the pivotal moments that marked this Golden Age.
Following the discovery of the New World, a diverse group of Europeans, including Venetians, Genoese, Flemish, and Germans, flocked to Seville to initiate thriving enterprises in the Gateway to America. We will uncover fascinating anecdotes and insights from this vibrant chapter in history!
Our journey will take us to the Plaza del Triunfo, notable for the UNESCO triangle. Did you know that this square houses three structures recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites? We will admire the exterior of the Archivo General de Indias, the Real Alcázar of Seville, and the cathedral.
Next, we will explore the façade of the Casa de la Contratación, an essential site for understanding the significance of Seville's Golden Age. Access to efficient land routes and favorable maritime conditions on the Guadalquivir were pivotal in establishing Seville as the hub of trade with America.
As we continue, we will pass by other notable buildings such as the Royal Mint, the Customs House, the Church of La Caridad, and the Atarazanas. We will approach the Guadalquivir River to enjoy views of the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower) while discussing the remarkable voyages of Magellan and Elcano.
After two hours of exploration, our tour will conclude at the Paseo Alcalde Marqués de Contadero.
