Description

Embark on an enriching day trip that seamlessly fuses the wonders of history with the allure of nature as you visit Ohrid. This journey offers you the chance to delve into archaeological sites while soaking in breathtaking views of one of the globe's oldest lakes. An experience you won't want to overlook!

Itinerary

We'll commence our adventure at the arranged hour, gathering in front of the Bristol Hotel in Skopje, ready for our drive to Lake Ohrid, a stunning World Heritage Site that promises to mesmerize from the outset. The scenic journey of 2.5 hours will reward us with spectacular views of the mountainous terrain that typifies the southwestern region of North Macedonia.

Upon reaching Ohrid, prepare for a guided exploration of its old town, renowned as a remarkable open-air museum. Our stroll will take us along the Ohrid Lake promenade, where the clear waters harmonize with the tranquil pace of the town, leading us deeper into its historical roots.

Throughout our tour, you'll encounter noteworthy attractions, including the Church of St. Sophia, one of the nation’s oldest churches, and the Robevi House Museum, offering insights into the traditional lifestyles of local inhabitants. We will also visit the ancient theatre, a vestige of the Hellenistic era, maintaining its historical allure.

Next, we will see the Church of Santa Bogorodica Perivleptos, celebrated for its remarkable Byzantine frescoes, as well as the Icon Gallery, which showcases some of Macedonia's most significant religious artworks.

Our path will guide us to the Upper Gate and to Tsar Samoil's Fortress, a location that rewards visitors with stunning panoramic views over the lake and the city's skyline. Following this, we will proceed to the Church of St. Clement in Plaosnik, a site of immense significance in Ohrid.

Our next destination is another emblematic landmark, the Church of St. John Kaneo. This quaint 13th-century structure perched majestically above the lake is possibly the most iconic sight in North Macedonia, with its scenic backdrop and architectural appeal making it a must-see.

As our tour nears its conclusion, we will wander through Charsija, the Old Bazaar, and take a moment to appreciate the venerable Chinar tree, a living symbol of Ohrid's enduring history at over 1,100 years old.

A 1.5-hour interval allows you to enjoy lunch, providing an excellent opportunity to savor local dishes by the lakeside, including the famed Ohrid bagels—a beloved local specialty. If you visit in the summer months, this is also the perfect chance for a refreshing swim.

Our journey will conclude as we make our way back to Skopje, bringing to an end this enriching experience after a span of 10 hours together.
