Sofia Evening Tour
Description
During this Sofia evening excursion, we will immerse ourselves in the charm and allure of Bulgaria's capital once the sun goes down. Expect to behold the city's notable illuminated landmarks while uncovering the fascinating history of one of the oldest cities in Europe.
Tour Overview
We will commence our journey at the designated meeting point right outside the striking Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a true emblem of Sofia whose illuminated form is sure to captivate. Our exploration will lead us through the historic center, where the enchanting nighttime lighting dramatically alters the city's ambiance.
Our first destination will be the Saint Sofia Church, a remarkable representation of early Christian architecture found in southeastern Europe. Close by, we will appreciate the Russian Church of St. Nicholas, where you will learn about the intriguing tale of Father Seraphim and the church's distinct Moscow-influenced architectural style.
Continuing our journey, we will reach the exterior of the former Royal Palace. Here, we’ll discuss some of the most significant and tumultuous epochs in Bulgarian history. Shortly thereafter, we will visit the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, acclaimed for its stunning design, particularly striking when illuminated at night.
This tour also includes a stop at the Rotunda of St. George, where we will relish the peaceful ambiance of this ancient Orthodox temple, free from the usual daytime crowds.
As we proceed, we will traverse the ruins of Serdica, remnants of a 4th-century settlement lying beneath present-day Sofia. Near the conclusion of our tour, we will observe the Banya Bashi Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Europe, which dates back to the 16th century.
After approximately 2 hours, we will wrap up our evening outing back at the iconic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
