Plovdiv & Starosel Day Tour
Description
Embark on a day trip to Plovdiv and Starosel from Sofia and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Bulgarian heritage. Experience the seamless blend of culture, architecture, and tradition that characterizes these cities. Additionally, don't miss the unique street murals in Staro Zhelezare.
Day Trip Overview
Your adventure begins with a pickup at the Embassy of Slovakia at the scheduled time. From Sofia, we will travel southeast towards the city of Plovdiv, a journey that takes approximately 2 hours. The city is a remarkable showcase of Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Bulgarian influences, visible in its stunning architecture and historic sites.
Once in Plovdiv, we will walk through its cobbled streets and admire the vibrant houses dotting the landscape. Highlights of our tour include a visit to the impressive Roman Theatre and the Regional Ethnographic Museum, both vital pieces of the city’s architectural narrative.
After exploring, you'll have 1 hour for lunch in Plovdiv, famously known as the City of the Seven Hills. Post-lunch, we will embark on a scenic 2-hour drive to the sanctuary of Starosel, established in the 5th century B.C. Here, you will find the monumental "tholos," a significant representation of ancient Thracian warrior culture.
Next, we’ll take a brief journey to the town of Staro Zhelezare, where you can marvel at the engaging street art murals which reflect societal themes both local and global — an excellent backdrop for a memorable photo.
Our enriching day concludes as we head back to the original meeting point in Sofia, wrapping up a total of 10 hours of discovery.
