Day Trip to Cape Cross Seal Reserve
Your adventure will begin with a convenient pick-up from your Swakopmund accommodation at the agreed upon time, setting the stage for an unforgettable day at the Cape Cross Seal Colony.
As we head northward, we will pause several times to appreciate the breathtaking Namibian landscapes. One notable stop will be at Henties Bay, in the Free Republic of Wlotzka’s Baken, a quaint holiday destination characterized by its serene wooden bungalows.
Next, we’ll resume our journey to Cape Cross, named in honor of the stone cross erected by explorer Diego Cao, the first European to reach Namibia in 1486, commemorating King John I of Portugal.
Upon arrival at Cape Cross, enjoy a sumptuous lunch featuring traditional Namibian delicacies such as fat cookies, etitis, chicken, and mopane worms. This culinary experience will surely delight your palate!
Afterward, we will proceed to the Cape Cross Seal Reserve, where over 200,000 seals make their home. You'll be able to stroll along a wooden walkway for an up-close view of these fascinating animals; you’ll find yourself mere inches from them!
The vast population of seals is truly awe-inspiring. Did you know that this location is home to one of the largest colonies of Cape fur seals in the world? You will witness them sleeping, gliding in the water, playing, and even feeding.
For those fortunate enough to visit in November or December, you may even glimpse adorable seal pups, as this is the typical birthing season for Cape fur seals.
It is advisable to bring a scarf or shawl to cover your nose. While the spectacle of numerous seals is magnificent, the odor can be a bit intense.
In conclusion, our day will wrap up as we make our way back to Swakopmund, ensuring you are returned to your hotel by approximately 5 pm.
