Excursion to Sama Reserve & Laguna Grande of Tajzara

Starting at 8 am, we will collect you from your hotel in Tarija and journey towards the Cordillera de Sama Biological Reserve, commonly referred to as Sama Reserve.

Our adventure begins as we travel west to the eastern slopes of Sama, known for its dramatic landscapes featuring steep slopes, plateaus, and serene lagoons. During this trip, you will have the opportunity to gaze at the stunning vistas of Tarija's central valley and its rocky formations.

We’ll take our first break in the village of San Lorenzito to stretch our legs before proceeding to the reserve. Here, we will explore iconic highlights of the mountain range, such as the La Falda Tunnel, where you can take in the breathtaking views of the Bolivian altiplano. We will also visit Iscayachi, a charming village known for its unique adobe church.

At midday, we will pause for a picnic lunch, enjoying a meal that consists of a sandwich, water, and fruit.

Post-lunch, we will embark on a scenic walk through the Sama Reserve before heading to the Laguna Grande of Tajzara. This beautiful natural setting, flanked by golden sand dunes, offers the perfect chance to soak in the surroundings, observe the flamingos along the lakeshore, and reconnect with nature.

Finally, we will visit the town of Copacabana, where you can explore an artisan weaving workshop before we make our way back to Tarija. You can expect to be dropped off at your original pickup location between 4 and 5 pm.

Pickup is available from hotels situated in central Tarija. Should your accommodation be located outside this area, please proceed to the meeting point at Bolivar street for pickup.
