Tour Overview
Day 1: Tashkent - Kokand - Fergana
The journey commences with a convenient pickup from your Tashkent hotel and transfer to the train station to board a train to Kokand, nestled in the Fergana Valley.
Upon reaching Kokand, we will embark on a guided exploration of the city, admiring the Khudoyar-Khan Palace, along with the Jami Mosque and the Norbut-Biy Madrasa. Following our tour, we will proceed by bus to the serene village of Oq Yer, where a local craftsman will showcase their artistry and introduce us to a Kyrgyz family, revealing their skill in crafting wool carpets. The night will be spent at a hotel in Fergana.
Day 2: Fergana - Rishtan - Margilan - Tashkent
After breakfast at the hotel, we will set off to Rishtan, renowned for its ceramics. Here, a master artisan will invite us into his home to view his exquisite creations, previously showcased in international exhibitions. You will also get the chance to participate in a pottery workshop to create your own piece!
Next, our journey will take us to Margilan, where we will tour the Said Akhmad-Khoja madrasa, now functioning as a silk factory. We will enjoy a stroll through a traditional market and visit the Yodgorlik silk factory to witness the process of transforming silk into luxurious fabrics. On Thursdays and Sundays, you can explore the Kumtapa Bazaar, the largest marketplace in the Fergana Valley. In the afternoon, we will board a train in Margilan back to Tashkent for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Tashkent
We’ll begin the day with breakfast and then embark on a guided tour of Tashkent. You will admire the striking architecture of the Alisher Navoi Theatre and visit the Tashkent Museum of Applied Arts. Our stroll will take us through Amir Temur Square and Independence Square, culminating at the Khast Imam complex, where you can appreciate the architectural beauty. The tour will conclude with a visit to Charsu Bazaar, allowing some time for shopping before returning to the hotel.
Day 4: Tashkent - Urgench - Khiva
Morning will find us enjoying breakfast before checking out and heading to the airport for an internal flight of approximately three and a half hours to Urgench. Upon arrival, we will be transferred to Khiva for a day full of exploration.
After settling into our hotel, we will take a tour of Khiva, where we will visit the magnificent Itchan-Kala fortress, the madrasas of Amin Khan and Mukhammad Rahimkhan, and the striking Kalta minaret. While touring, we will uncover the depth of Uzbek architecture, heavily inspired by Arabic styles. Our exploration will lead us past the Kunya Arch, the Juma Mosque, the Tash-Khovl Palace, and the Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum, concluding with the splendid Islam-Khoja Minaret. The remainder of the day is free for relaxation at the hotel.
Day 5: Khiva - Bukhara
After breakfast, the bus will be ready to take us to Bukhara, a seven-hour journey filled with beautiful landscapes and traditional Uzbek villages along the way. Once we arrive in Bukhara, we will check into our hotel, leaving the rest of the day open for personal exploration.
Day 6: Bukhara
The day will kick off with breakfast before we delve into the treasures of Bukhara: visiting the Lyabi-Khauz complex, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Kalyan Minaret and Mosque, Miri-Arab Madrasa, Ulugbek Madrasa, the Abdulazizkhan Madrasa, and the Ark Fortress Madrasa.
We will also see the mausoleum of Ismail Samani, the founder of the Samanid Empire, before continuing to the Bolo Hauz Mosque, Chor-Minor Madrasah, and the commanding Arq of Bukhara. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a folk music performance before heading back to the hotel.
Day 7: Bukhara - Nurota - Kyzyl-Kum
After breakfast, we will depart for Nurota, a four-hour drive filled with historical sites, including notable petroglyphs and the ruins of Chashma from the 4th century.
Upon reaching Nurota, we'll explore this ancient city, discovering the Juma and Panjvaqta mosques. Afterwards, we will continue our journey to a yurt camp in the Kyzyl-Kum desert, where we will stay overnight. Enjoy a delicious dinner followed by a folk music show before retiring for the night.
Day 8: Kyzyl-Kum - Samarkand
Breakfast will be served at the yurt camp, followed by a morning for you to explore Kyzyl-Kum on foot or via camel. After lunch, we’ll board our vehicle and head to Samarkand, where we will arrive in the evening and check into our hotel for the night.
Day 9: Samarkand - Tashkent
The last morning will be spent discovering Samarkand, the second-largest city in Uzbekistan. Our visits will include the renowned Registan Square along with its three identified madrasas from the 15th and 17th centuries, the Zindah necropolis, and the Bibi Khanum mosque, noted as the largest mosque in Central Asia.
We will also tour the Konigil factory, where traditional paper is crafted. Following lunch, you’ll have the chance to purchase souvenirs from this incredible 9-day journey in Uzbekistan. In the later afternoon, we will reconvene at the hotel, transferring to the train station for our 6 pm departure back to Tashkent, arriving at 8:10 pm, followed by a drop-off at the airport for your flight.
