Day Trip to Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe & Gori

Join us at the Avlabari metro station in Tbilisi as we begin our journey at 9 am to explore some of the most significant cultural sites in Georgia: Uplistsikhe, Gori, and Mtskheta.

Our adventure kicks off at Uplistsikhe, a site translated as "the lord's fortress." Here, you will witness stunning cliffside landscapes and explore nearly 500 caves that span from the Iron Age through the Middle Ages. Often referred to as the Georgian Cappadocia, its unique formations will captivate you! After this exploration, we will break for lunch around 1 pm.

After our meal, we'll continue to Gori, a city steeped in history that is famously known as the birthplace of Stalin. You will have an opportunity to stroll through the historic center and visit either the Gori Fortress or the Stalin Museum, an exhibition dedicated to the life of the Soviet leader. The medieval fortress, with its archaeological significance dating back to several centuries BC, is a highlight of this area!

Next, we make our way to the Jvari Monastery, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. Here, we will delve into the history of the monastery, believed to be the site where Christianity first arrived in the region. Our final stop will be the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a magnificent Orthodox church located in Mtskheta that serves as the burial place for many of Georgia's rulers.

As our day concludes, we will transport you back to Tbilisi, completing this enriching experience in approximately 10 hours.
