Day Trip to Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe & Gori

Our adventure begins at the Avlabari metro station in Tbilisi, where we embark on a trip to three of the most significant cultural sites in Georgia: Uplistsikhe, Gori, and Mtskheta.

The initial destination will be Uplistsikhe, which translates to "the lord's fortress." Here, you will experience remarkable rocky landscapes as we explore nearly 500 caves that date from the Iron Age through the late Middle Ages. Often referred to as the Georgian Cappadocia, this site is simply awe-inspiring! Following this visit, you'll have some leisure time to enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, we will proceed to Gori, a city steeped in legendary tales and recognized as the birthplace of Stalin. You will have the chance to wander through the city's historical center and visit either the Gori Fortress or the Stalin Museum, dedicated to the life of the Soviet leader. This ancient fortress holds archaeological elements tracing its history back several centuries BC!

Next, we will travel to the Jvari Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which presents breathtaking panoramic views of Mtskheta, the long-ago capital of Georgia. Here, you will learn about the monastery's intriguing history, believed to be where Christianity was initially introduced to the region. Lastly, we will explore the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an impressive Orthodox church in Mtskheta and the burial site of several Georgian kings.

Our journey will conclude as we return to Tbilisi, wrapping up a total of 10 hours of exploration.
