Tsukiji Fish Market Tour
Description
Experience the largest fish market globally during this guided exploration of the Tsukiji district in Tokyo. Immerse yourself in the rich culinary landscape with a unique behind-the-scenes visit to a historic seafood establishment, where you will sample some of the finest fish available in the city.
Tour Overview
We will meet at the Honganji Temple gate at the scheduled time and embark on an adventure through what was once the world's largest fish market.
Our journey begins with a rare opportunity: a private tour of a 60-year-old seafood restaurant. While the bustling outer market fills with visitors, we will step inside to observe the skilled chefs preparing seafood in the early morning hours. Here, you’ll gain insight into the inner workings of the market and discover the passion and commitment that go into delivering Tokyo's freshest seafood.
Following this, we’ll indulge in a premium tasting experience featuring some of Japan's culinary treasures. Enjoy Nakaochi (tuna rib meat) alongside a three-part tuna tasting: Zuke (marinated), Chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and Otoro (premium fatty tuna). To round out the experience, we will also savor small bites of Uni (sea urchin) and Ikura (salmon roe). Our guide will instruct us on the proper tasting techniques to help you fully appreciate not just the flavors, but also the cultural significance behind each dish.
Next, we will navigate the lively streets of the Tsukiji Outer Market, where we will sample delightful street food options, such as Tamagoyaki (fluffy rolled omelette) and savory eel skewers. As we wander, take the opportunity to browse exquisite ceramics and the famed knives crafted by legendary Japanese chefs.
To conclude our tour, we will visit the historic Namiyoke Shrine, where we will explore the deep-rooted spiritual relationship between the Shinto tradition and the Japanese appreciation for food.
The experience wraps up in the Tsukiji area after approximately 3 hours.
