Experience a unique blend of chanting, drumming, and an intensely spiritual setting during the fire ceremony at Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple. Unveil the mystical aspects of Tokyo!

Activity Details

Our journey will commence at the designated time at Monzen-Nakacho Station, located in one of Tokyo's most spiritually rich areas. Are you prepared to observe the fire ceremony at Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple?

We will kick off by wandering through the historic streets of Fukagawa, a locale that captures the charm of ancient Edo, filled with traditional boutiques and concealed shrines.

The highlight of our adventure will be the fire ceremony at Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple. This Buddhist ritual, referred to as Goma, involves a purification ritual with sacred flames accompanied by monks who chant and strike large taiko drums. The sheer intensity of the atmosphere and the vibrant energy will leave you in awe!

Following the ceremony, we will explore the surroundings of Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple, taking in its remarkable architecture, guardian statues, and enchanting chambers adorned with mandalas and intricate engravings.

Next, our route will lead us to the Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, a site renowned as the cradle of sumo wrestling in Japan. Here, we’ll delve into its storied past and pause at the Sumo Monument, honoring the sport's legendary figures.

As a concluding highlight, we will visit the Honganji Temple, celebrated for its striking Hindu-inspired architecture.

The tour will wrap up with our return to the starting point in Tokyo, approximately four hours after we set off.
