On this Otaku tour in Tokyo, you'll dive into otaku culture as you explore iconic shops, retro games, merchandise and more in Akihabara and Nakano Broadway.

Tour Description

At the indicated time, we’ll pick you up on foot from your hotel in Tokyo. We'll begin with an introduction to the areas you're about to explore: Akihabara and Nakano Broadway, two of the epicentres of otaku culture in Tokyo.

Our first stop will be at Akihabara. After arriving by metro, we'll learn about the area's history. As we exit the station, you'll be able to visit any stores you have specific interests in. The guide will also be happy to help you look for any particular products you want to find. At each store, you'll learn about its history, evolution, and hear some interesting facts about it.

The Namco building will be our next stop. Here, you'll find shops such as the Ichiban kuji figure lottery and the Maid Café. After visiting the shops of your choice, we'll walk through Radio Kaikan. Here, you can find limited-edition figures, scale models, and retro video games. Afterwards, we'll arrive at the Animate building, where we'll see the jaw-dropping Neon Genesis Evangelion Mural—don’t forget your camera!

We'll continue with a visit to GiGO Akihabara 1. Did you know that it used to be the Sega building, and was rebranded as GiGO in 2021? Inside, you'll find arcade machines, fighting games and thrilling virtual reality games. You can also pick up some exclusive merchandise—what more could you ask for?

Next up will be a tour of Don Quijote Akihabara, an enormous bazaar shop where you can find almost anything you could possibly imagine, from fake lashes to original Louis Vuitton bags. Afterwards, you'll be able to choose one or more of the following stops based on your interests:

• Surugaya: Manga, anime, and collectible figures
• Mandarake: Toys, games, and collectible figures
• Gashapon Kan: Collectible gashapon

Having worked up an appetite, we'll stop in Akihabara and give you an hour of free time to grab something to eat. Our top local recommendations are Kizuna Sushi and Sushiro, but the choice is yours!

After lunch, we'll make our way to Nakano, taking the JR Chuo Line. After 30 minutes, we'll arrive at Nakano Station, where we'll hear a historical introduction to Nakano Broadway. Once again, you'll get to visit any stores or look for particular products as you please.

Next, we'll stroll through Nakano Sun Mall, a bustling covered shopping street with stores and restaurants that connects to Nakano Broadway. Then, we'll enjoy a tour of Nakano Broadway, during which you can choose to visit some of the following stores:

Finally, after a total of 8 hours, we’ll say our goodbyes and bring the tour to an end at Nakano Station. Until next time!
