Why Visit the Palace of Versailles?

Located in the Ile de France, one hour from Paris, the Palace of Versailles was declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. Originally a hunting lodge of Louis XIII, it was transformed into a palace by King Louis XIV.

Palace of Versailles

Also known as Château de Versailles, this palace features 2300 rooms over 63154 square meters. Highlights include the Hall of Mirrors and temporary exhibitions. A specific time of visit must be chosen for access.

Carriage Gallery

Located in the Grande Écurie, this gallery showcases an extensive collection of carriages used by French royalty, including those of Marie Antoinette.

Sculptures & Mouldings Gallery

Located in the Petit Écurie, this room displays copies of ancient Greek and Roman statues that enhanced the palace and gardens.

Versailles Gardens

The gardens are known for its landscaping, ornamental fountains, and include the Great Musical Waters fountain show held on specific days from April to October.

Palace Park

The park covers approximately 800 hectares with two aquifers supporting the natural layout.

Petit Trianon & Grand Trianon

At the eastern end of the park, Trianon includes the Petit and Grand Trianon and the Queen's Village.

  • Open from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm (5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Versailles Gardens

  • Monday to Sunday: 8 am to 8:30 pm (6 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission at 7 pm (4:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Palace Park

  • Monday to Sunday: 7 am to 8:30 pm (8 am to 6 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission at 7:45 pm (5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Petit Trianon & Grand Trianon

  • Tuesday to Sunday: 12 pm to 6:30 pm (5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission at 6 pm (5 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Free Admission

On the first Sunday of each month from November to March, entry is free but requires a time slot for the Palace. Certain visitors can access specific areas free of charge.

Admission for EEA Citizens

During booking, select the correct option for admission based on citizenship and residency. EEA citizens enjoy reduced ticket prices.

How to Get to Versailles from Paris

By Train

  • The RER C train arrives at Versailles Château Rive Gauche station, located 10 minutes walk from the palace. Important: due to works on the RER C train line, from July 15 to August 25, 2022, you'll only be able to take the train at the Javel station in Paris (belonging to metro line 10).
  • From Paris Montparnasse station, SNCF trains arrive at Versailles Chantiers station, an 18-minute walk from the palace.
  • From Paris Saint Lazare station, SNCF trains arrive at Versailles Rive Droite station, a 17-minute walk from the palace.

By Bus

  • From the Pont de Sèvres metro station exit (line 9, the pistachio green one) you can take the RATP bus 171, which will take you to Versailles Château Rive Gauche station.

By Car

  • From the A13 freeway, take exit 5 for Versailles Centre and follow the signs to the Palace of Versailles. These are the GPS coordinates of the Palace of Versailles: 48°48'17N and 2°07'15E.

How to access the palace

  • Main entrance: Through the Cour d'Honneur courtyard.
  • Entrance A (at the top of the Cour d'Honneur, on the left): Reserved for visitors with tickets.
  • Entrance B (at the top of the Cour d'Honneur, on the right): Reserved for groups with a reservation.

  • Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 6:30 pm (until 5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission is at 6 pm (5 pm from November 1 to March 31), and the ticket office closes at 5:45 pm (4:50 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Carriage Gallery

  • Open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm (until 5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission is at 5:45 pm (until 4:45 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Sculptures & Mouldings Gallery

  • Open Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year and from Tuesday to Sunday between May 14 and July 13.
  • The gallery is open from 12:30 to 18:30 (until 17:30 from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission is at 5:45 pm (4:45 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Versailles Gardens

  • Open from Monday to Sunday, from 8 am to 8:30 pm (until 6 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • The last admission is at 7 pm (until 4:30 pm from November 1st to March 31st).

Your ticket includes the Great Musical Waters fountain show. Between April and June, this show takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In July and August, it takes place from Tuesday to Sunday. In September and October, you can enjoy the show on Tuesdays and from Thursday to Sunday. 

Palace Park

  • Open from Monday to Sunday from 7 am to 8:30 pm (from 8 am to 6 pm between November 1 and March 31).
  • The last admission is at 7:45 pm (5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Trianon

  • Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12 pm to 6:30 pm (until 5:30 pm from November 1 to March 31).
  • Last admission is at 6 pm (5 pm from November 1 to March 31).

Free & Reduced Tickets

On the first Sunday of every month, between November and March, entry to the entire site (including the Palace of Versailles and the Trianon) is free. However, to visit the Palace you'll need to book a time slot in advance, while the Trianon is free to visit.

People with disabilities or those under 26 years of age residing in the EU or under 18 years of age from outside the EU can access certain areas free of charge. For this type of ticket, we recommend visiting the official Versailles website directly.

Admission for EEA Citizens

Please note that, starting from January 14, 2026, citizens of the EEA (European Economic Area) can enjoy a ticket at a reduced price. The EEA is formed by a total of 30 countries: 27 countries from the European Union, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway

If you purchase this ticket for EEA citizens, you may need to show a justification of residency or nationality at the entrance.
