Tour Description

We will convene at the main entrance of the Upper Belvedere Palace at the designated time, excited to embark on our adventure. Are you ready to delve into this architectural marvel?

Constructed in the 18th century for Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Belvedere Palace stands as one of Europe’s premier Baroque palace complexes. The visionary behind its design, Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, created a stunning connection between the Upper and Lower Belvedere through beautifully landscaped gardens, with the Upper Belvedere originally intended for hosting receptions and banquets. This remarkable structure brilliantly showcases a fusion of French and Italian architectural styles.

Today, this palace houses an exceptional collection of Austrian art. Accompanied by our expert guide, we will explore the Art Gallery, which features artworks spanning from the medieval period to the 19th century. Among the treasures are notable pieces by esteemed artists like Monet, Van Gogh, Munch, Goya, and Schiele. Notably, the gallery includes the world’s most extensive collection of Gustav Klimt works, highlighted by his iconic painting “The Kiss”, alongside “Judith” and “Sonja Knips”.

After appreciating these masterpieces, we will proceed to the Marble Hall, a significant room rich in history, where the Austrian State Treaty was ratified in 1955. Do not miss the awe-inspiring fresco adorning the ceiling, executed by Carlo Carlone in 1723—it’s truly a sight to behold!

Next, we will take a leisurely walk through the enchanting palace gardens, adorned with fountains, sculptures, and meticulously arranged flowerbeds. This picturesque area provides stunning vistas of both the palace and the historic city of Vienna.

In conclusion, after approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of exploration, we will wrap up the tour.
