Upper Belvedere Palace & Gardens Guided Tour
Description
Discover the Upper Belvedere Palace through this guided experience, where you can admire exceptional artworks by Klimt and Monet, alongside the beauty of remarkable baroque gardens.
Tour Description
At the scheduled time, we will gather at the main entrance of the Upper Belvedere Palace to commence our guided adventure. Are you prepared to uncover this architectural treasure?
Initially, we will wander through the stunning palace gardens, which boast intricately designed flowerbeds, elegant fountains, and statues. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy stunning views of both the palace and Vienna itself.
Next, we will step inside the palace. Constructed in the 18th century by Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Belvedere Palace stands as one of Europe’s preeminent Baroque palace complexes. This masterpiece, attributed to Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, links the Upper and Lower Belvedere through an exquisite garden, with the upper section originally serving as a venue for receptions and banquets. The interiors showcase an elegant mixture of French and Italian architectural styles.
Currently, the palace houses one of Austria’s most notable art collections. Together with our guide, we will explore the Art Gallery, which presents an array of artworks from the medieval era to the 19th century. Key highlights include significant pieces by famous artists like Monet, Van Gogh, Munch, Goya, and Schiele. Notably, the gallery is home to the largest collection of works by Gustav Klimt, featuring iconic pieces such as “The Kiss”, “Judith”, and “Sonja Knips”.
After enjoying these remarkable artworks, we will proceed to the Marble Hall, a grand space rich in history, where the Austrian State Treaty was signed in 1955. You will be captivated by its ceiling, adorned with a magnificent fresco by Carlo Carlone, completed in 1723—it's a sight not to be missed!
In total, this immersive experience will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, after which we will conclude our tour.
