Guatavita Day Trip + Casa al Revés
Description
Embark on a journey through the tale of El Dorado with this day excursion to the town of Guatavita, renowned for its fascinating narrative.
Overview of the Day Trip
We will commence our adventure from Bogotá, making a scenic stop at the Laguna de Guatavita, an ideal location to appreciate the distinctive beauty of this area.
After spending approximately one hour at the lagoon, our next destination will be the renowned Casa al Revés, a notable landmark in Guatavita. This unique structure is situated on the Vereda Santa María and, as its name suggests, it is constructed upside down!
Following a 30-minute wait, we'll have the opportunity to explore the house and its rooms, all designed in the same unconventional style. You'll have plenty of chances to capture amusing photographs!
After our visit to this intriguing house, we will proceed to the town of Guatavita, where we will delve into the sacred rituals of the Muisca, an Indigenous group known for their use of gold artifacts in ceremonies. This historical aspect led to the creation of the legend of El Dorado, attracting many conquistadors in search of these valuable treasures.
The narrative of El Dorado has influenced films, literature, television series, and even video games. But what is the reality? Did pre-Columbian cultures really possess vast quantities of gold? What were the Spanish conquistadors truly hoping to discover? All these inquiries will be addressed throughout the tour!
A break will follow, allowing you to enjoy some lunch, before we conclude our journey with a return to Bogotá. You will be dropped off at our original meeting point after a total of 8 to 8.5 hours.
