Guided Tour of Kochi
Description
Uncover the rich heritage of Kochi as you embark on a journey through its historic city center. While navigating the enchanting streets, you will sense the enduring influence of the Portuguese colonial era.
Guided Tour of Kochi
This guided exploration commences at the Kochi port, where you will board a minibus headed towards the city's oldest section, Fort Kochi.
Along the waterfront of Fort Kochi, you will observe the traditional 'Chinese fishing nets.' These ancient fishing methods, which have been utilized for centuries, will be explained, along with the intriguing history of their introduction to India from China in the 14th century.
The journey through Kochi proceeds to St. Francis Church, recognized as one of the oldest churches established by Europeans in India. The remains of the renowned Portuguese navigator, Vasco da Gama, rested here until 1539 before being transported to Lisbon. Adjacent to the church, you can visit the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, home to exquisite stained glass windows, frescoes, and vibrant wall paintings.
From Fort Kochi, we will continue to the Dhobi Khana neighborhood, where you’ll have the chance to explore two significant historical sites: the Mattancherry Palace, often called the Dutch Palace, and the Paradesi Synagogue. The latter is considered one of the most significant Jewish sites in southern India, and you will gain insight into the history of this community in the region.
At the conclusion of our discoveries, we will return you to the port in Kochi, marking the end of the tour.
