4-Day Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado - Journey to Tambopata

The adventure kicks off as we greet you at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado and transport you to the tour's starting point. Following a briefing on our agenda for the next four days, you'll board an all-terrain vehicle for a scenic two-hour drive into the Amazon Rainforest.

We'll arrive at the banks of the Tambopata River, where a boat will ferry us to the lodge that will serve as our base for the upcoming days. After getting settled into our cabins, a delightful lunch awaits to refresh you.

The afternoon offers a chance to explore the nearby jungle, seeking out various wildlife in their natural habitat. The remainder of the day is yours to unwind. We look forward to seeing you again tomorrow!

Day 2: Visit to Macaw Clay Lick and Monkey Island

We'll begin with an early morning start, setting out for El Chuncho, the world's largest macaw clay lick, embarking on a 1.5-hour boat journey to observe the stunning wildlife in the region. Stay alert for sightings of capybaras, jaguars, and tapirs!

Upon disembarking, we'll delve deep into the jungle to witness the vivid spectacle of 11 species of macaw perching on the clay formations shaped by erosion—a sight that will surely leave you mesmerized.

Next, we will continue to the botanical garden, where you'll discover a variety of fruit trees, timber species, and medicinal plants. After this educational excursion, we will return to our lodging to gather our things and head towards the accommodation near Sandoval Lake.

Once settled, enjoy a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, we have the option of visiting Monkey Island. After crossing the Madre de Dios River, you’ll encounter various monkey families, including the Gracile capuchin and the Guianan squirrel monkey that inhabit this unique locale.

As night descends, we’ll embark on a thrilling quest for caimans, providing an excellent photo opportunity. Afterward, we’ll return for dinner and some well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Exploration of Sandoval Lake

The day begins with a hike spanning approximately 1.86 miles (3 km) through lush tropical trails, featuring ancient trees over five centuries old, leading us to Sandoval Lake, one of the prime lakes within the Tambopata National Reserve.

During a 2-hour boat excursion, marvel at the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon jungle. With a bit of luck, you might encounter families of giant otters or alligators. Following this wildlife tour, we'll head back to the lodge for a restorative lunch.

As darkness falls, we’ll take a night hike to discover the myriad of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal creatures. After this adventure, we will return to the lodge to share a meal and rest.

Day 4: Canopy Walk Experience

On the final day, we will rise early for a stroll on the hanging bridges of the Canopy Walk. Spend the morning high among the treetops, enjoying stunning views of this picturesque region of Peru—can you imagine being 30 meters (100 feet) above the ground?

After this invigorating activity, we’ll savor a delicious breakfast and then journey back to Puerto Maldonado, concluding our tour with farewells around midday.

5-Day Tour

This 5-day option follows the same schedule as the 4-day tour for the initial three days. However, on the fourth day, instead of returning to Puerto Maldonado, we’ll take a hiking trail around Sandoval Lake. Following our exploration of its waters in a traditional rowing canoe, you’ll have the opportunity to try to spot piranhas. Once night falls, a night walk in this amazing environment will be a highlight.

The final day (day 5) will see us usher you back to Puerto Maldonado.

Our team will collect you from the bus station or the arrivals area of Puerto Maldonado Airport. The specific pickup time will be determined by your flight schedule if you are arriving by air.

Pickup Details

The tour includes pickup from the bus station or Puerto Maldonado airport. If you require collection from locations outside these areas in the city, there will be an additional charge of 50 to 70 USD, based on your distance from our designated pickup points. This payment will occur on the day of the tour.
