Calling all history buffs! What legacy did Plato and Socrates leave behind? Join us to find out on this fascinating tour of Greek philosophy in Athens.
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Statue of Theseus in Athens, commencing our journey into the world of Greek philosophy.
Our first stop will be the Kerameikos Archaeological Site, historically significant as Athens' ancient cemetery and the location where Pericles delivered his “Epitaph” speech.
Next, we'll head to the Ancient Greek Agora, the center of public life where philosophers like Socrates and Plato debated important societal issues.
From there, we will explore the Monastiraki Flea Market, followed by a visit to Hadrian's Library, a major knowledge hub in the ancient world, established by Emperor Hadrian in 132 AD.
We will then visit the Roman Agora, an extension of the Ancient Agora that remains partially unearthed. Next, we'll see the Tower of the Winds, a remarkable octagonal structure from the 1st century BC that served as a sundial and water-powered clock.
Afterwards, we'll stroll through Plaka and visit the Prison of Socrates to reflect on his life and legacy. Our next stop is Pnyx Hill, known as the “cradle of democracy,” offering views of the Acropolis.
We will conclude our tour at Philoppapos Hill, enjoying the views and reflecting on the philosophical discussions we have encountered. The tour will last approximately 3 to 3.5 hours.
