Explore the customs and way of life of the Misak community, an ancient civilization from southern Colombia, through this immersive experience from Silvia.

Misak Cultural Exploration

The journey begins at 8 am in the main park of Silvia. From there, we will board a minibus to venture to the outskirts of the town, embarking on a cultural exploration that delves into the rich traditions of the indigenous population of the Cauca department.

After a scenic 45-minute ride, we will reach a Misak orchard, known as yatul in the native language. Here, we will be greeted by women from the Misak community, who will share insights into the organization of their agricultural practices. You will also have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and participate in the harvesting if you wish!

Next, we will visit a Misak home to uncover how this pre-Hispanic group has sustained their way of living in the Silvia region for centuries. In this space, we will witness the sacred kitchens, learn about the people’s traditions, and explore the embroidery techniques employed in their traditional attire.

Following our exploration of the Misak home, a delightful lunch awaits, featuring your choice of a fish or a vegetarian dish, paired with a refreshing drink and seasonal fruit.

With renewed energy, we will board the minibus once more and head to the Casa Payán Interpretation Center. During our visit, we will uncover fascinating information about medicinal plants that hold significance in both Miskitu and Colombian cultures.

Ultimately, after this in-depth cultural experience, we will conclude our journey at 2:30 pm, returning to our starting location.
