Description
Delve into the historical richness of Ireland on this immersive day trip departing from Dublin. Our journey will take us to the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Loughcrew's Cairns, and Fore Abbey.
Tour Overview
We will convene at the iconic Molly Malone statue located on Suffolk Street in Dublin at the agreed time. From there, we’ll embark on a coach journey to uncover some of the most intriguing historical sites in eastern Ireland.
After a scenic 40-minute drive, we will reach the sacred Hill of Tara, a site of immense significance in Ancient Ireland. Traditionally considered the seat of the High Kings, this ceremonial and burial site reveals centuries of history and offers stunning vistas, featuring notable landmarks like the Coronation Stone and An Forradh monument.
Amidst these vibrant green landscapes, we will proceed to our next destination, the formidable Trim Castle, a 30-minute drive away. As the largest Anglo-Norman fortress in Ireland, this impressive castle boasts well-preserved ruins from the 12th century, and our guide will share captivating insights as we explore its grounds and snap photos.
Next, we will journey for about 50 minutes towards Loughcrew, renowned for its ancient Megalithic passage tombs that date back to circa 3000 BC. The legendary tales surrounding these ancient burial sites are captivating, and the panoramic views from this, the highest point in the county, are sure to leave a lasting impression.
Following this, we will enjoy a short 15-minute ride to Fore Distillery. Here, we’ll uncover the intricate processes behind the production of local spirits such as Golden Irish Rum, White Irish Rum, and Irish Poitín. During our visit, there will be an opportunity for lunch; guests can either purchase a meal on-site or bring a packed lunch.
Our final historic stop will be at Fore Abbey, founded by Saint Fechin in the 7th century. We will unravel the fascinating history of this once-thriving Christian monastery, which housed up to 300 monks at its peak. Interestingly, the abbey has withstood the flames of destruction a total of 12 times throughout its storied past.
As the day draws to a close, we will make our way back to Dublin, concluding our 10-hour and 15-minute journey with a drop-off on Dame Street in the heart of the city.
