Celtic Boyne Valley & Ancient Sites Tour
Description
Delve into the rich heritage of Ireland with this immersive day trip from Dublin. This excursion will feature visits to the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Loughcrew's Cairns, and Fore Abbey.
Tour Overview
The journey begins as we gather at the iconic Molly Malone statue located on Suffolk Street in Dublin. From there, we will embark on a coach ride to some of eastern Ireland's most intriguing historical landmarks.
After a 40-minute drive, we will reach Ireland's most sacred site, the Hill of Tara. This ancient ceremonial and burial ground served as the seat of the High Kings of Ireland per Celtic tradition. Aside from immersing ourselves in its rich history, we will be captivated by stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape, featuring the renowned Coronation Stone and An Forradh monument.
The journey continues as we traverse through lush green landscapes to our next destination: the imposing Trim Castle, which we will reach after a 30-minute drive. This formidable Norman fortress holds the title of the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. Our knowledgeable guide will share captivating insights about the remarkably well-preserved 12th-century structures as we roam its grounds and capture memorable photos.
Next, we will travel for approximately 50 minutes to Loughcrew, home to several Megalithic passage tombs that date back to 3000 BC. You will be enchanted by the mythical stories surrounding these ancient cairns and the breathtaking views from this location, which is the highest point in the county.
Afterward, we’ll hop back on the coach for a brief 15-minute journey to Fore Distillery. Here, we will delve into the distillation of Fore Valley spirits like Golden Irish Rum, White Irish Rum, and Irish Poitín. This will also be an opportunity to enjoy lunch, with options to either purchase a meal onsite or bring your own packed lunch.
Our next stop will be Fore Abbey, where Saint Fechin established a Christian monastery in the 7th century. We will uncover the compelling history of this sacred site, which once housed 300 monks at its pinnacle. Interestingly, it has endured 12 instances of fire throughout its extensive history.
As our day comes to a close, we will return to Dublin, providing a drop-off at Dame Street in the city center, marking the end of a comprehensive 10-hour and 15-minute adventure.
